Staffordshire materials technology company, Ceram, has published a new white paper on lightweighting, the concept of making a product lighter to drive up margins by using less material. Also referred to as rightweighting, lightweighting has been adopted by certain industries, such as aerospace, to make products that are lighter but that still retain their performance characteristics.
In addition, the concept often leads to the development of new applications, products and technologies. Ceram uses its materials expertise and cross-industry knowledge, together with the latest in optimisation software to produce designs that can then be made into prototypes at the company’s facilities. What’s more Ceram can also trial new technologies and processes, saving its clients both time and money.
