The Recycling Association and Tesco’s head of packaging will be among those taking part in a panel discussion geared towards retailers and packaging manufacturers later this month.
Recycling challenges faced by the print and packaging sectors will be a key exhibition theme at this year’s Label & Print exhibition, which takes place at the NEC Birmingham on February 28th and March 1st, and the panel discussion will provide visitors with an insight into new solutions and innovations that will help them tackle the issues of unrecyclable packaging.
With the sustainability of packaging becoming such a big topic in recent months, and with many consumers more aware of the damage packaging has on the environment, this debate will bring together recyclers, retailers and packaging industry representatives to discuss how the environmental impact can be reduced.
The Recycling Association chief executive Simon Ellin will be part of the panel discussion, chaired by Prismm Environmental managing director Mike Jackson, and will talk about where new innovations will come from and what the current challenges are within the recycling industry.
Simon Ellin said: “We are delighted to be part of the Label & Print exhibition and be involved in this important panel debate on the problem of packaging recyclability. We have been beating the drum about material and design impacts on recyclability and this exhibition will provide us with the opportunity to discuss directly with the wider supply chain how we can all work together to drive improvements.
“There are so many factors to take into account, and recycling is just one of them. But by working together we can develop new, sustainable solutions.
“I look forward to hearing the other speaker’s thoughts on this issue.”
The panel will also include Tesco head of packaging James Bull, a representative from packaging materials manufacturer Foilco, packaging design company 1HQ global technical director David Harding-Brown and Jon Clark, general manager of BPIF Cartons.
The panel debate will take place between 12:00-13:00, 28th February on the ECO Pack Stage.
