Greater flexibility for industrial print and packaging pattern inspection is achieved by allowing for natural product variations in the test samples. Stemmer imaging’s CVB Flex Inspect is a new inspection tool for flat materials from print to watermarks through to textiles, which overcomes the traditional limitations of comparing the sample under test to a ‘golden template’ of a single known good part. Many products are simply not manufactured, reproduced or printed with the necessary fidelity to be tested against a single ‘golden template’.
To overcome this, CVB Flex Inspect uses the latest in machine learning research to build a complex appearance model of good examples on-the-fly during training. This captures the permitted variations in the training set of images whilst in ‘Learn’ mode. Subsequently CVB Flex Inspect is able to compare the test images with this flexible internal model of allowable appearances, to give a quality metric and/or difference image.
