Global packaging firms MeadWestVaco Corporation (MWV), Multi Packaging Solutions (MPS) and Ellis Paperbox have signed-up to Ecodesk, the World’s largest open data sustainability platform to measure and analyse supply chain energy use and carbon emissions.
All three companies join what is an on-going initiative by Ecodesk to measure, map and analyse business sustainability data in an open and free-to-access environment. By targeting suppliers to understand their energy use and carbon emissions, these companies can develop a more complete picture of their own environmental impact but also identify possible areas of improvement and cost savings in the supply chain.
Each company is using the Ecodesk platform to openly publish its sustainability data but also to link with suppliers and develop a clear map of supply chain energy use and carbon emissions.
“The response from packaging businesses to customer requests to report has been amazing and a credit to the industry,” said Robert Clarke, CEO, Ecodesk. “Their understanding of the commercial benefits of sustainability data and the role it can play in terms of procurement and reputation has been refreshing. These businesses have quickly realised the benefits of having an open data relationship with their customers but also their own suppliers. This transparency and collaboration can only lead to a stronger, more dynamic packaging industry.”
