When inSpiral Visionary Products, the London-based snack manufacturer, needed a unique, innovative home-compostable material for a new range of organic snack packs they turned to Yorkshire-based National Flexible for expert advice and support. Having formulated a recipe for their snacks using organic ingredients (kale – a ‘superfood’ which is part of the brassica family of vegetables), inSpiral demanded high quality printed packaging which supported their values and also demonstrated the environmentally-friendly ethos of the product itself. National Flexible have an exceptional track record in developing cutting edge environmentally based packaging films, having had commercial success with chalk-based films for M&S, McDonalds, Dairycrest, as well as introducing unique oxo-degradable laminate films to the market. National Flexible’s technical team drew on their vast experience and, with the benefit of a global supplier base, produced a bespoke high barrier, multi-layer material created by combining different substrates which are independently certified to EN13432 standards for compostability. Specialist inks and lamination adhesives were also used in its production to ensure the overall structure of the material could then be certified as 100% home compostable post-conversion.
