Get ready to meet 2016 Starpack winners …

160905 winner mainTHE winners of the 2016 Starpack Awards have now been chosen, with judges praising the standard of this year’s entries.

The Best In Show entry, which will be announced at the annual prize-giving in London o Thursday, September 15th, was described as an “excellent use and significant attention to detail on a very large pack” gaining praise for its “significant thought with a lot of nice features to enhance the old offer”. Along with other winners, a full description and photos are included in a special winners’ guide, compiled and designed by Media One Communications, the publisher of both Packaging Gazette and FMCG News, and media partner for the Starpack Awards. Copies of the winners guide will be handed out to everyone at the ceremony.

Chairman of the Packaging Society, Keith Barnes, said the guide once more emphasises the diverse nature of the packaging industry. He said both the Schools and Student Starpacks were well attended and provided many interesting results, congratulating David Wiggins and his dedicated team  at IOM3.
“Do all please enter your products next year and let us make it an even greater success,” said Keith. “I hope winners will also take the chance to enter Worldstars.”

David Wiggins, a member of the Starpack Advisory Group, added: “The 2016 entries showed that the packaging industry in the UK continues to push the limits of technical expertise and the innovation continues to thrive. The judges spent a stimulating day in Grantham exploring innovations across a range of pack technologies. We saw enormous distribution packs for high value car parts, to exciting new ways of dispensing beer via some very light weight injection moulding.
“I would like to congratulate all our entrants especially those who won one of the four Gold Stars, 17 Silver Stars and 19 Bronze Stars. Thank you for all of your great work. I look forward to seeing more exciting innovations next year. IOM3 and The Packaging Society will continue to recognise and reward excellence in innovation across the UK industry.”

For the first time, The Starpack Awards will be hosted at Packaging Innovations and Luxury Packaging London 2016. Now in its 58th year, Starpack will take place on day two of the show, in the Keynote Theatre, between 13:00 – 15:00.
Event Director for the Easyfairs’ Packaging Portfolio, Gerry Sherwood, said: “We are thrilled to welcome The Starpack Awards to the show this year. We have been supporters of the awards for many years.”

The objective of the Starpack Awards Scheme is to identify innovation in packaging design and technology, recognising invention, environmental impact and functionality.

The products entered into the Awards must show innovation in design, construction, manufacturing and materials technology, in order to be considered. They must have environmental credentials relating to material usage, manufacturing and at the end of packaging life cycle, for example re-use, recycling or recovery. Plus, they must also champion the needs of the consumer in relation to the functionality of packaging throughout its life cycle and minimising product waste.
