An Endoline case erecting and robot cell loading solution installed within Nairn’s –producer of the leading brand of oatcakes in the UK – has fully automated a previously labour intensive operation, improved efficiency, and overcome limitations to meet new criteria set out by supermarkets, which calls for the design and performance of shelf ready cases to offer efficient handling and faster brand recognition.
Now packing up to 80 cartons per minute the line incorporates a hot melt glue application to secure the base of the box without producing an overlap – allowing Nairn’s to meet supermarket expectations – the formed cases are fed directly into an Endoline robot cell which deploys with a six axis ABB robot arm, equipped with specially designed grippers to pack between 6 and 12 cartons per case.
