UPM Conveyors have established preferred supplier status to Finlay’s Fresh Produce who were the first suppliers of Fairtrade vegetables into the UK. Roger Broughton, group engineering manager said that the company selected UPM due to their ability to offer bespoke solutions to product handling in Kenya, where Finlay’s needed trouble free operation and zero maintenance. UPM were able to offer a solution to Finlay’s application for handling loose leaf product based on 6 double decker belt conveyors each 7m long to allow 8 operators per side to transfer product at a rate of 2000 kilos per hour from the top inclined boxes to plastic trays on the foldable work tables then to the first tier belt conveyors with rejects placed onto the lower tier for transfer to a central 40m long conveyor connecting all 6 lines. All aspects of manufacture were carried out in house including fabrication; programming and control build to include variable speed drives with CAT 2 Pilze Relay and E Stop circuits which allows complete control of quality/inspection and maintaining delivery promises.
