Global brand consultancy, Elmwood, is delighted to announce the appointment of Jon White, former Marketing Director at Kimberly-Clark, to the position of Managing Director of its rapidly expanding London studio.
In a rare but exciting move for the design industry, Jon joins Elmwood from the client-side of brand and marketing leadership – bringing with him an invaluable understanding of the commercial challenges faced by brand owners – along with expertise in the fields of accelerated growth, differentiated positioning and new product development.
In his previous role, Jon commissioned Elmwood to lead the reinvigoration of the Andrex® brand where he returned the UK’s number 1 non-food brand back to growth after a three-year decline, and was recognised with a DBA Design Effectiveness Award in 2013. This first-hand experience of using design as a strategic driver for commercial success provides Jon with a unique understanding of the numerous board-level challenges that exist. He will now be working across Elmwood London’s portfolio of global and national clients, helping to deliver them similar brand success.
Jon originally trained as an Engineer joining Kimberly-Clark as an Operations Leader. Having completed an MBA he held a number of senior marketing positions including Marketing Director for the Kleenex® and Huggies® brands in Europe prior to his leadership of Andrex®. Until July 2013 he was also Chair of the Executive Committee for ISBA, the voice of British Advertisers working on best practise initiatives across the communications industry and he has previously acted as a judge for the DBA’s Design Effectiveness Awards.
Commenting on his move from ‘gamekeeper to poacher’, Jon said, “A client has to deliver commercial success by driving positive customer, consumer and shopper behaviour change. I was attracted to Elmwood as they truly understood our challenges and their focus was always to leverage this and outstanding creative work to deliver effective brand and business results. I look forward to now being part of the team that works with our clients to take this approach to the next level of creativity and effectiveness.”
This latest hire further underpins Elmwood’s commitment to ambitious growth and the expansion of a game-changing leadership team. Other recent additions include David Jenkinson, Elmwood London’s newly appointed Creative Director who joins from Interbrand, Damian Ferrar, who joins Elmwood from Imagination as Global Brand Experience Director and Natalie Maher, Elmwood’s newly appointed Group Communications Director who has joined from her previous role in leading communications for the design industry’s body the Design Business Association. Natalie will be leading the development of Elmwood’s global offer in the field of brand story-telling.
Elmwood’s Group CEO, David Godber, commented, “Jon brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience, offering an essential perspective to Elmwood’s business in his ability to understand and anticipate a client’s needs. Elmwood is in growth in support of its many global and national clients, but consultancies need to be proactive to their clients’ future needs, which is why we constantly innovate, introducing fresh thinking and new talent. Jon, David, Damian and Natalie’s appointments are a tangible and planned investment in Elmwood’s future, and serve to reinforce our commitment to delivering commercially effective design in support of our clients.”
