The new KD series of contact image sensors for machine vision applications from Mitsubishi Electric Europe bring a new approach to industrial web inspection applications for print, pattern and defect inspection. Available throughout Europe from STEMMER IMAGING, they record images of moving objects using the same concept as used in fax machines and desktop scanners. Supplied complete with optics, illumination, encoder logic and a machine vision standard CameraLink output, they can be readily stacked together according to the width of the web with no reduction of line rate with width, giving a constant viewing angle, sharpness and brightness across the width of the web. They benefit from a flat construction, so that they fit into narrow spaces. The KD series features three different lengths, offering scan widths of 309, 617 and 926 mm. The two sets of integral white LED lighting can be varied in intensity and controlled independently, increasing the range of applications. The lighting is homogenous, with no shading along the length of the sensor, meaning defects can be detected even at the edge of the scan.
